Where do we put the park?

The first question inevitably asked when talking about this project: Where is the skatepark going to be?

The short answer is, we don’t know. When selecting a skatepark location, maybe factors must be considered: accessibility, space, level ground, drainage, shade, etc. It’s part of the reason this process has taken so long.

The initial location for the skatepark was this pile of dirt (pictured above.) It’s located in the lower section of Giorgetti park, just feet away from the former home of Flipside skatepark. But after due diligence, being located in a floodplain crossed it off the list.

Another possible location is on Allen Street, located at the school campus near the hospital. This land is already home to a BMX pump track and has many positives for being selected. There is some concern over putting a public skatepark on school grounds, but overall, this would be a great location for a park.

The third and most plausible option is still unknown. After speaking with Rutland Recreation, it sounds like there is a real possibility that the city will soon be gifted a piece of privately owned land that is adjacent to a current city park. Because this deal is not finalized, we do not know the actual location of this land, however we are optimistic that it will emerge as the perfect location for the new Rutland Skatepark. We will keep you posted as we learn more.

So, what do you think? Where should the new Rutland Skatepark go?
